Municipal Water Treatment by ozone

Oxygen VSA for Ozone Generators

Traditionally drinking water is treated by Chlorine for disinfection. Ozone has excellent disinfection and oxidation properties. Advantages of Ozone for water treatment are

  • Lower concentrations required - A much smaller concentration of Ozone is required as compared to Chlorine. This results in smaller water treatment plant.
  • Removes Odor taste causing organic matter-Ozone effectiely neutralizes Organic matter that cause Odor and taste and unlike Chlorine, does not have a strong odor of its own.
  • Oxydizes residual pesticides -
  • Eliminates disinfection byproducts - Chlorine can react organic matter and form unpleasant byproducts.
  • Ozone is a form of Oxygen with 3 atom of Oxygen instead of 2. Ozone is unstable and dissociates into Oxygen. Ozone is produced from Air using various process like electric arc. Only 10% of oxygen is converted into Ozone in these processes. Since air is 21% Oxygen, using air as the source produces 2% Ozone. Using 90% Oxygen produces 9% Ozone. This reduces the size of Ozonators required.

Oxygen can be supplied by Adsorptech's onsite plants or Liquid Oxygen supply(LOX). LOX is trucked in to the plant daily for a nearby Cryogenic plant. Using a combination Onsite/LOX oxygen supply has many advantages

  • LOX supply can be interupted by road conditions
  • LOX prices vary widely based on demand and supply
  •
  • Adsorptech's Onsite Oxygen plants use only electricity as raw materials and produce cheaper Oxygen compared to LOX.
  •
  • LOX can still be used as a backup source and thus increasing the reliability of the water treatment plant.
  • Typically Industrial gas companies only lease plants. Adsorptech's Onsite Plants can be purchased which suits Municipalities better. Adsorptech Plants produce Oxygen by VSA process. VSA is much more efficient than a PSA Oxygen Process.
